The three main Wall Street indexes opened the first session of the year in the green. The optimism, which has been reigning also this Monday in Europe, comes after the main North American stock markets have closed 2021 recording the third consecutive year of gains.
Although usually the New York Stock Exchange is not open on the first Monday of the year, this year Wall Street decided not to take the traditional pause and start trading right away. The last time this happened was in 2010, and since 1928 it has only happened 13 times.
By now, the Dow Jones industrial index adds 0.42% to 36,486.52 points. The Standard & Poor's 500, meanwhile, advances 0.52% to 4,791.11 points and the Nasdaq Composite technology index appreciates 0.86% to settle at 15,776.97 points.
