Maputo: Electricity in Matola to be restored by tomorrow

Maputo: Energia eléctrica na Matola será reposta até amanhã

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, has assured that the electricity supply in the Machava, Bunhiça and Khongolote neighborhoods in Maputo province will be restored by tomorrow (Friday).

According to Carlos Zacarias, who made a working visit to those areas in Maputo, "work is currently underway to replace the equipment destroyed by the fury of the waters in order to restore electricity to around 650 affected families".

At the time, the government official, quoted by the newspaper SundayHe said that "some Transformer Stations (PTs) are still in flooded areas and others have been destroyed by erosion. Technicians are therefore on the ground to replace the equipment in safe locations."

According to the state-owned Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), the rains that hit the south of the country left around 15,000 customers without electricity in Maputo city and the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane.
