The Minister for State Administration and the Civil Service expressed her displeasure on Thursday at the high number of corruption cases involving civil servants in the country.
According to the official, from last year to the first half of this year alone, more than 600 cases were reported, seven of which are already being followed up by the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCC).
"Maputo and Inhambane provinces are at the top of the country's corruption list, where those involved are at risk of being expelled from the state apparatus," he lamented.
Ana Comoane expressed her concern at the opening of the IX coordinating council of the Ministry of State Administration and Function, which is taking place until today in the town of Matola-Rio, Maputo province.
For her part, the inspector general of the Civil Service, Laura Nhancale, explained that the education and health sectors are the ones with the most cases of corruption, and that the authorities are working to stop this social evil.
Detailing the phenomenon of corruption in the civil service, Laura Nhancale pointed to the areas of public service, namely health and education, as those with the highest record of corruption.
According to the source, most of the cases culminated in disciplinary proceedings and, in the most serious situations, were referred to the GCCC, bearing in mind that, in addition to disciplinary sanctions, there is room for criminal liability.
"This is the result of the work that the public administration is doing to hold those involved in corruption schemes to account. Corruption occurs throughout the country and in all sectors, but we have the most critical ones," said the source.
He assured that the state would remain relentless in the fight against corruption, with a view to restoring dignity to the sector, at a time when citizens are complaining about the quality of services provided at various levels.
