Construction and expansion work on the new bridge over the Metuchira River, located on the N6 in Inchope, in the Gondola district of Manica, is 95% complete and is expected to be delivered in the first half of September..
The guarantee was given by the Minister for Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, who recently visited the construction site and was satisfied with the work.
On that occasion, Carlos Mesquita, quoted by the NewsHe said that "the bridge is extremely important for the country and is part of the government's commitment to providing infrastructure to promote development".
The bridge will have two structures, one old and narrow and the other newer and larger, which will boost the economy because it will make it easier to transport people and goods to and from neighboring countries.
For the Executive, the new bridge will reduce the number of road accidents that occur systematically, partly due to the fact that the old one was narrow and on a bend. Traffic on the Beira Corridor is therefore expected to flow more smoothly.
"The bridge will have a positive impact on the development of the region, opening up new business opportunities, which will stimulate the growth of trade in SADC," explained the minister, adding that the smooth flow of traffic will benefit not only the community of Gondola, but also the province of Manica and other users of the N6.
The construction of the bridge over the Metuchira River is financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as part of post-cyclone reconstruction efforts.
