More than 36,000 travelers have already crossed Mozambican borders for the festive season

Mais de 36 mil viajantes já atravessaram fronteiras moçambicanas para quadra festiva

More than 36,000 people crossed the borders of Ressano Garcia, Goba, Namaacha and Ponta do Ouro, in Maputo province, from the 15th to the 20th of this month, to celebrate the festive season with their families.

According to the spokeswoman for the Maputo Provincial Migration Directorate, Carmen Mazenga, despite the post-election crisis in the country, activities at the four border posts in Maputo province are running smoothly.

To meet the demand, the National Migration Service had to activate Km-7 in the South African counterpart, in order to make the mobility of people and goods more flexible.

In the same context, the working hours at the Ponta do Ouro border crossing have also been adjusted - from 6am to 6pm, as opposed to the usual 5pm. The other border posts are operating 24 hours a day.

"This measure serves to guarantee choice for citizens. Because of this, it is thought that tomorrow (today) will be the peak day," said Carmen Mazenga, quoted by Sunday newspaper.

As for the opposite movement, i.e. the return to South Africa, the largest influx of migrants is expected between January 2 and 5, 2025.
