The National Migration Service (SENAMI) in Maputo province revealed this Thursday that just over 250,000 people will be able to cross the border at Ressano Garcia during the festive season.

According to SENAMI, there has been an increase in migration movement in the last few days, with 44,958 travelers recorded compared to 32,304 recorded in the same period last year, an increase of 40%.

"Of these travelers, 22,671 correspond to entries and 22,287 to exits, with the Ressano Garcia post registering the highest migratory flow with 22,585 travelers," the institution said in a statement.

For now, the government hopes to reach an understanding with the South African counterpart to ease cross-border operations in the coming days.
