English league is close to approving Chelsea's sale

Liga inglesa está perto de aprovar a venda do Chelsea

The English Football League is expected to approve a bid by Todd Boehly's consortium to take control of Chelsea. The club was owned by Roman Abramovich, a Russian oligarch who was forced to put the club up for sale following tough sanctions by the English government.

According to the newspaper Económico, the League stressed that the deal is "in progress," but sources contacted by "ESPN" said that the offer must pass the Owners and Directors Test (OATD) in the next few days, which will be an important step in closing the transaction.

Still, a separate agreement will have to be drawn up establishing what will happen to the transfer money, as the British government has decreed that Abramovich cannot personally benefit from the transaction. The amount requested by the Russian businessman is 2.5 billion pounds (2.95 billion euros).

Boehly's consortium has waved £4.25 billion (5 billion euros) to buy the London club. A figure that includes the investment it promises to make in the future.
