Construction work began on Monday (22) in the municipal district of Katembe, Maputo city, on the Regional Coordination Center for Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Inspection of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The start of the work was marked by the laying of the foundation stone, led by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, for what will be the infrastructure that will house the facilitation and coordination services aimed essentially at combating illegal, unregulated and undeclared fishing in the SADC member states.

According to the Terra MagazineThe Center will also be responsible for strengthening fisheries governance and legal frameworks to eliminate illegal fishing, develop the regional strategy and an action plan to protect marine resources and make them increasingly contribute to the development of the local economy.

The creation of the Center was approved in August 2017 by the SADC Council of Ministers.
