Several civil society organizations are leading propaganda in favour of the supposed victory of the Frelimo party in the general elections on 9 October.
According to a ZitamarHowever, little is known about some of these organizations, and the propaganda aims to discredit the post-election protests in Mozambique.
The organizations "Mais Transparência" (More Transparency) and "Conselho Nacional da Juventude" (National Youth Council) are pointed out as one of the propaganda organizations in favour of Frelimo. Genuine election observers suspect them of being "pirate" organizations.
On the other hand Zitamar used metadata to discover the origin of some fake news. In this exercise, he found that journalists who are members of Frelimo are involved in these productions. He found names like Edson Mulate, Lázaro Bamo and Américo Matavele.
"Both Bamo and Matavele are members of Frelimo, and Matavele also works in communications and marketing for President Filipe Nyusi's cabinet. They were previously members of the so-called G40, a group created by former president Armando Guebuza to defend the Frelimo government and demonize the opposition," writes Zitamar.
In addition, Anselmo Sengo, editorial director of Público, a newspaper owned by SPI, Frelimo's business arm, is also named.
These names were involved in the production of the MozLeaks magazine which, in a single article, accused the CIA and embassies such as the Netherlands, Switzerland and the European Union of sponsoring vandalism in Mozambique. On October 30, he also created two Facebook pages that share subversive content, Olhar Moçambique and Sociedade Democrática.
