The Mozambican authorities announced that they have recovered the remaining seven wooden containers, out of a total of 76, that had been illegally exported to China.
According to the delegate of the Mozambique Environmental Quality Control Agency (AQUA), the seven containers recovered are the last of a batch illegally exported in December 2020 through the port of Pemba. Meanwhile, the Public Ministry said it intends to speed up the sale of the seized timber to avoid devaluation.
"The containers are the same and so is the wood. That wood is in condition to be used for any other kind of work," said Cassimo Assane.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has already named nine defendants, accused of involvement in the case. Among the defendants are eight Mozambicans and one Chinese citizen.
The Public Ministry has already said that it will speed up the process of selling the wood, to prevent it from losing its commercial value, while it awaits the decision of the province's judicial court.
