The Italian government, through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is funding the implementation of the "Digital Flagship for Africa" project, an initiative budgeted at 100 million dollars to support digital transformation in Mozambique.
The project is part of a broader initiative of the Mattei Plan program, which aims to accelerate the continent's development and, in this experimental phase, covers four African countries, namely Mozambique, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Ghana.
The initiative was presented yesterday (20) in Maputo by Mauro Draoli, from Italy's Digital Agency, during the Workshop on Systemic Thinking for Digital Transformation.
Cited by AIMMauro Draoli said that the choice of the country was the result of the need to create technology incubators in different key sectors of the government and the private sector, creating an environment where emerging startups in this area could develop their initiatives and skills, as part of the strengthening of collaboration between Mozambique and Italy in the field of digital transformation.
"The Digital Flagship for Africa Initiative is implemented by the UNDP in collaboration with the Italian Agency for Digitalization, whose aim is to improve digital public services, reduce the digital divide and strengthen digital capacities at the level of institutions," said Mauro Draoli during the opening of the Workshop on Systemic Thinking for Digital Transformation.
According to the source, a group of public institutions that operationalize government projects relating to digital inclusion and transformation has been selected, with the aim of seeking out sensitivities and assessing opportunities, for support as well as funding for initiatives in the area.
One of the institutions covered is the National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM), which has been implementing various digital inclusion projects, including Digital Squares, Internet in Schools, Digital Libraries, Digital Television Porches for Rural Communities, Rural Connectivity, Expansion of the Cellular Mobile Telephone Network to Rural Areas, Sustainable Villages for Development, and TV White Space, some of which are financed through the Universal Access Service Fund (FSAU).
