In Mozambique, investment in the gas sector halved in 2022 to just over two billion dollars, compared to the previous year when it registered more than 4.6 billion dollars.
According to the NewsThe report, which cites a document from the National Statistics Institute, states that these investments are justified by the start of offshore gas production in the Rovuma Basin, Cabo Delgado province, in 2022.
The bulk of these investments went towards spending on the development phase of the field, absorbing 1,653,364 dollars, around 79.9% of the total invested last year. It was, however, "the lowest figure since 2018".
In 2021 there was the greatest absorption of the capital invested, in the order of 4,157,434 dollars, according to the newspaper.
Last year, spending on the production phase amounted to 386.904 million, "almost three times what was recorded in 2021".
Overall, between 2018 and 2022, the multinationals operating in Mozambique in the sector invested 18.5 billion US dollars.
The largest investments were made between 2019 and 2021, mainly for the acquisition of goods for field development, research and evaluation, conceptual studies and services.
