INSS loses contributors and beneficiaries due to pandemic

The Statistical Yearbook 2020 of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reveal that the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) has lost a considerable portion of its assets due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The INE report indicates that the INSS lost about 193 contributors from a total of 13,236 and 29,532 beneficiaries from a universe of 105,577 who stayed out of the labor market.

Gaza province was the most affected. The decline in the number of taxpayers also occurred in the previous year. In 2019 the enrolled companies were 502, and in 2020, they remained 412. The number of beneficiaries followed the same trend: from 9,652 jobless in 2019, the number fell the following year to 3,216.

In Manica, a province that also had several casualties, from 938 taxpayers enrolled in 2019, the number fell to 679 last year. The number of beneficiaries fell from 5,512 to 4,168 unemployed in 2020.

The provinces of Inhambane and Tete also contributed significantly to the decrease in the INSS.

As a way of helping businesses, the INSS injected 600 million meticais into the economy, through the National Investment Bank.
