Standard Bank's PMI Index predicts that economic growth in Mozambique will remain at 3% throughout the year, despite the difficulties that may be seen in the first months of 2025, but anticipates a gradual improvement in the following quarters.
"The contraction in GDP growth is expected to continue in the first quarter of 2025, but there should be a recovery in subsequent quarters, consistent with our forecast of 3%, year-on-year, for 2025," points out Standard Bank Mozambique's chief economist, Fáusio Mussá, who predicts, however, that economic difficulties will continue to affect the country.
According to the economist, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the Mozambican economy contracted by 1.6%, as a result of the protests and stoppages in Mozambique since last October.
