The sugar factory in Marromeu, in Sofala province, is paralyzed following a fire that, last Thursday, broke out inside the complex.
The fire reached the plant's control room and destroyed almost all the computer equipment that was installed there. It took 30 minutes to control the flames and no human damage was reported.
The causes of the fire are not yet known, but it is assumed to have been caused by a short circuit.
quoted by Radio Mozambique, the financial director of Companhia de Sena, Luc Burton, says it is still premature to advance the losses, noting that a work is underway to determine the causes and damages.
However, he makes it clear that the situation is serious and emphasizes that it is not known when the Marromeu sugar factory will be able to start working again.
With nearly 4,600 workers, the Marromeu sugar mill produced 52,000 tons of sugar annually.
