The National Institute of Health (INS) published results of a study indicating that the highest rate of HIV infection in Maputo city, about 49%, occurs in people (men) who have sex with each other.

The information advanced by a national television channel outraged the LAMBDA Association, which came to the public saying that the conclusion of the INS research is false, that is, it is not true that there was an increase in HIV prevalence among men who have sex with men

According to the note, the INS survey did not focus on the homosexual population, but rather, men who have sex with- MSM. Moreover, it misrepresents the concept of homosexuality, i.e., it assumes that all men who have sex with other men are homosexual men, which is not the truth.

The term MSM designates a practice, which can occur between two people of the male gender regardless of their sexual orientation.

The association's note refers to the data advanced by the INS, LAMBDA refutes them.

For LAMBDA, the information conveyed, besides not being true, creates space for greater stigma and discrimination against homosexuals.
