Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) was honored on Monday (24) by the Mozambican Tax Authority as the first in the "Income Tax" and "Global Contribution" categories.
The recognition highlights the company's record payments to the public purse, reinforcing its strategic role in national development.
In the last three years (2022 to 2024), HCB has paid more than 23.17 billion meticais in taxes, including VAT, IRPS and IRPC, as well as 9.69 billion meticais in concession fees for operating the dam. These amounts represent 37% of the company's total contributions over the last 17 years, consolidating it as a financial pillar for the state.
Reacting to this distinction, the Chairman of HCB's Board of Directors (PCA), Tomás Matola, highlighted the company's commitment to the country's development. "Our prudent management guarantees the punctual payment of taxes, fees and dividends. This reflects our commitment to Mozambique and its development," said Tomás Matola, quoted by the Dossiers & Facts newspaper.
The award also highlights HCB's economic impact after the enterprise reverted to Mozambican control in 2007, marking a phase of consolidation and transformation in the national economy.
