HCB could increase current transmission capacity

Five more energy generators have started operating, in Songo, in Tete province, and may increase the production and energy transmission capacity of Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), the company reveals.

The commissioning of these five generators will minimize losses and increase the availability of electrical power. Each generator has a conversion capacity of 415 MW, for a total installed capacity of 2075 MW.

"We have already begun the bidding phase and the preparations to receive the large equipment. The manufacture of the necessary equipment will begin shortly, because we will begin to place the orders as soon as we finish the tender phase and the selection of the contractors and manufacturers, so that work can begin", said Boavida Muhambe, HCB's Chairperson of the Board of Directors, quoted by the newspaper O País.

In all, there are five groups of generators and, says the HCB manager, "each case will be a case, which means that in five or six years we will be able to conclude the installation and maintenance of the equipment acquired.

The information was advanced during the festivities alluding to the 47th anniversary of HCB and the VI edition of the Songo Festival, an initiative that aims to promote local culture.
