Mozambique will soon release a study on food security in the post-harvest scenario, according to assurances from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Korea. The work includes statistics on the increase of people in emergency due to terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
"All the international data report that we are an example. I think we have been following that there has been a very big reduction [of hunger pockets], but in the same way that when things are not good that comes from outside we wait for our own report. We will continue to wait for our own report to confirm this positive trend of the studies that are being done internationally, but things are going well," said Celso Korea, quoted by Radio Mozambique.
The Governor was speaking today, in the city of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, moments before the start of the Summit of Heads of State Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Speaking to journalists, Celso Korea stressed that Mozambique no longer has pockets of hunger, despite the increase in the global index caused by climate shocks and wars.
"We, from what we sense, have sufficient reserve and supply. In terms of the food balance we are already registering surpluses in some crops. It is true that they are not distributed throughout the national territory. We have situations in parts of the country that deserve special attention and monitoring. Mozambique has a lot of food, but it is not evenly distributed, but this is the way forward," he stressed.
Mozambique will, today, share its experience in fighting hunger at the round table on food security to be led by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Summit (COP27).
