Government extends Matola Gas Company pipeline concession for another 15 years

Governo prorroga concessão do gasoduto da Matola Gás Company por mais 15 anos

Through the Council of Ministers, the Mozambican government has extended the gas pipeline concession held by Matola Gás Company (MGC) for the transportation of natural gas from the Ressano Garcia administrative post in Maputo province for a further 15 years.

Meeting at its 19th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers in Maputo, the Executive explained that this extension is intended to allow for new investments estimated at 300 million dollars, with work due to start this year.

According to the Council of Ministers' note, these investments are also aimed at setting up new infrastructures and connecting MGC's existing facilities to receive volumes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) regasified by the Beluluane Gas Company (BGC).

MGC is majority-owned by the Mozambican government, through the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH) and the South African energy company, Gigajoule International, and is dedicated to the transportation, distribution and marketing of natural gas produced in Mozambique.
