The Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, said today in the Assembly of the Republic (AR) that the Government will implement "realistic measures" to protect the population from the impact of the increase in fuel prices.
"The Government will continue to be attentive and to adopt realistic measures that ensure the protection of the activities of the transport, agricultural, and fishing sectors, among others, which are vital in the lives of the population," said Rosario.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the closing of the information session requested by AR to the executive about the recent increase in fuel prices in the country.
Carlos Agostinho do Rosário recalled that Mozambique is a fuel importer and the prices are determined by the fluctuation of the cost of crude and its derivatives in the international market.
"The increase in fuel prices doesn't only happen in our country, as a simple will of the government, but, yes, it also occurs in other countries in the region, in the continent, and in the world, fuel importers," he justified.
Agostinho do Rosário sustained that only with the increase of the internal production and productivity can the country ensure the growth of the economy and the reduction of the cost of living
He also said that Mozambique must continue to focus on preserving peace, agriculture, and industrialization, as well as implementing structuring projects in the areas of energy, hydrocarbons, and infrastructure to improve the living conditions of the population.
It is known that it was in October that the Energy Regulatory Authority (Arene) announced the price hike for petroleum products in the country between 7% to 22%, reflecting the rise in the price of a barrel of crude oil in the international market.
