Government promises to streamline creation of "Local Content" law to help SMEs

Governo promete dinamizar criação da lei do “Conteúdo Local” para ajudar as PME

The government is working to create a legal framework that obliges the different multinationals operating in the country to invest in Mozambican companies in their chain of production and supply of goods and services.

According to Domingo newspaper, the information was advanced this Wednesday in Maputo by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Milton Tivane during the opening of the International Fair of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). To this end, Tivane said that "within a few weeks the government will consider the proposed Local Content Law.

Speaking on the same occasion, Feito Tudo Male, president of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (APME), mentioned that the lack of a local content law, financing lines, and tax burden are among the main challenges for these segments of companies.

For his part, The president of the CTA, Agostinho Vuma called for the reduction of the tax burden applied in the country because, due to the current economic climate, companies are being suffocated. He also advanced that amid the effects resulting from climate change, terrorism, Covid-19 and the recent Russia-Ukraine war, the country recorded a drop in the prospects of credit supply from 58 percent in 2019 to 50 in 2022 being that of the latter, only 2 percent is allocated to agriculture.
