The interim National Director of Commerce, Vera Godinho, yesterday discouraged the reduction of prices of basic products if such a measure is based on social pressure.
"In relation to this issue of the tendency of the people to demand cost reductions, etc., ... we discourage these measures, the government discourages these measures," said the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economy at a meeting with the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce.
The statements were, in fact, a call for entrepreneurs not to adopt or practice prices set in a list of 20 basic products circulating on social media.
"Today we need to re-establish peace and be more united and closer, and we discourage this practice," he said.
However, he said that work is underway to implement administrative and fiscal measures on trade.
"There are a series of measures that are under analysis... that we believe are necessary and pertinent so that, in the short term, we can return to our normal recovery of our economy," he said. (Source: JN)
