Government drops Pó Jorge from LAM board and promotes Fly Modern Ark

Governo deixa cair Pó Jorge da direcção da LAM e promove Fly Modern Ark

On Wednesday (28), the government removed João Carlos Pó Jorge from the board of directors of Mozambique Airlines (LAM), and appointed Theunis Crous, CEO of South African consultancy Fly Modern Ark (FMA), to the same position.

The information was announced in a press release from the Mozambican airline.

Thus, according to the same note, Theunis Crous will hold the position until April 30 of this year, when it will be decided the future of the FMA in LAM's restructuring process.

Pó Jorge has been General Manager of LAM since 2018, after being appointed at an extraordinary meeting of the company.

His resignation comes at a time when the FMA recently exposed millionaire embezzlement schemes at Mozambique Airlines (LAM), through points of sale (POS).

Faced with this situation, in a letter to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, LAM's management denied these accusations, claiming that "this information was not previously shared with the company's general management, which was taken by surprise when the information was published in the media", also expressing concern about the impact of the pronouncements on the reputation of the company, its employees, including in the recertification audits and major clients to be carried out later this year.

Last week, however, the Mozambique's Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) said it was investigating alleged embezzlement schemes and acts of internal sabotage at state-owned carrier Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM).
