Government sets date for submitting proposals for oil and gas prospecting

The government revealed, that interested parties have 10 months to submit proposals for oil and gas prospecting and exploration, under the sixth tender.

Launched this Thursday in Maputo, the new tender will cover 16 new areas, five of them in the Rovuma Basin, seven in Angoche, two in the Zambezi Delta and two in Save.

According to the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, Ernesto Max Tonela, who led the ceremony, the Government intends to continue to promote the research and prospecting of natural resources in order to leverage the country's socio-economic development, and "to promote better living conditions for the populations.

Still, the governor acknowledged the speed with which the world is moving forward, particularly in climate change mitigation measures aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement, as recently reaffirmed at the COP26 summit.

"We are living in an era of energy transition and in our view natural gas presents itself as the alternative that will play an instrumental role in promoting the penetration of renewable energies that are still intermittent and ensure the replacement of more polluting fuels and thus contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the region and the world," Tonela concluded.
