Two hundred and forty apartments of the second phase of the Olympic Village, in Maputo City, are available for young people and state employees, with amortization facilities over a period of up to 25 years.
In fact, an agreement for the marketing of the properties was signed this Monday between the Fundo para o Fomento para Habitação (FFH) and the Macau (China's special administrative region) construction company Charlestrong Engineering and Consulting Limited.
Completed in 2016, the houses were inaccessible to young people because the construction company demanded short-term amortization. The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, João Machatine, explained that the signing of the agreement represents another achievement of the Government in the search for solutions for decent housing for the population.
"The Government's efforts are not exhausted in this development. As the goal is to cover a greater number of people, taking into account the various strata, we have been implementing several housing sub-products, with a focus on Rebirth, Improvement, and Infrastructure Land," he added.
For the mayor of Maputo, Eneas Comiche, the facilitation model adopted by the FFH fits into the objectives of the Municipal Development Plan, which advocates the mobilization of partners to enable affordable projects and financing of affordable housing.
He revealed that the municipality is looking for partners for the redevelopment of the 150 houses area of the Maputo Municipal Council, also in the Zimpeto neighborhood, which should give way to the construction of housing in order to increase the supply and at costs equally controlled.
On the occasion, the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources delivered a police post that will serve the residents of the residential complex. The commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo City, Fabião Nhancololo, said that the infrastructure will strengthen police intervention and presence in this part of the capital.
