The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the Plano de Ordenamento do Espaço Marítimo Nacional (POEM) (National Maritime Spatial Planning Plan), with the objective of promoting the sustainable, rational and efficient economic exploration of the sea, of the marine resources and of the ecosystem services.
According to the spokesperson for the body, Filimão Suaze, the plan also aims to ensure the sustainability of the various uses and activities developed at sea, taking into account the inter and intra-generational responsibility and in a perspective of job creation.
Speaking after the 38th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, Filimão Suaze, explained that an update and modernization of the existing legislation was made
"We have to realize that the country has a huge coastline with diverse and quite long marine spaces. The existence of consistent legislation is a good step so that afterwards the other components can interconnect and we can have an increasingly efficient management," said the spokesperson.
