Government approves contingency plan for rainy season with 7.3 billion meticais deficit

The Government approved this Tuesday the Contingency Plan for the 2021-2022 rainy season, the same instrument presented a few days ago at the Prime Minister's Office.

In the session of the Council of Ministers, the Contingency Plan proposal was presented in Carlos Agostinho do Rosário's office (as Prime Minister) by Luisa Meque, president of the National Institute for Risk Management and Disaster Reduction. On the occasion, the leader explained that the expected events for the coming months (starting this October) in view of the weather forecasts are floods, urban floods, cyclones and winds, "and it is expected that 1,498,000 people will be affected.

However, yesterday, Philiman Suazi said that the number affected could be around 1,600 people.

At this moment, 3.3 billion meticais are available for the current rainy season, and there is a shortfall of 7.3 billion meticais for actions to anticipate and intervene in weather events.
