Government approves mechanisms for adjusting drinking water supply tariffs

The Council of Ministers approved, this Tuesday, a decree defining mechanisms of indexation and adjustment of average reference tariffs for the public service of drinking water supply.

Government spokesman Philimon Suazi told journalists at the end of the eighteenth regular session of the Council of Ministers that the decree is aimed at public and private water supply systems.

The systems comprise the production, distribution, and sale of drinking water on the national territory.

Filimão Suázi presents the main objectives of the decree on tariff adjustment for the public water supply service.

"Ensure the availability of water in quantity and quality and the continuity of the service provided to the consumer; Improve the systems through investment in reducing losses, relieving the pressure on the State Budget; Support the water supply systems of less sustainability and finally increase the coverage of water supply in alignment with the government's strategy for universalization of the service and achieving the goals of the sustainable development goals," he said.

At the session, the government also set the minimum producer buying prices for seed cotton and the cotton ginning fee, to be in effect in the 2020/2021 season.
