Government said it has about $50 million available for the construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems in the country over the next few years.
According to the Minister of Public Works, Housing, and Water Resources, João Osvaldo Machatine, this is an investment inserted in the execution of the second phase of the Water for Life initiative (PRAVIDA), which aims to expand access to water in 80% in urban areas and 73% in rural areas.
Osvaldo Machatine, who was speaking a few days ago in Maputo province, at the inauguration of a water supply system in the town of Ressano Garcia, assured that more than 50% of this amount is already secured, and "we have the challenge of finding operators capable of managing these systems so that they have durability".
"It is important that consumers honor their part by paying the water tariffs, so that the operation and maintenance costs allow for the longevity of the infrastructure," Machatine appealed.
