France-Presse and Google reach agreement

This Wednesday, it was announced by Google and France-Presse that they have reached an agreement, after 18 months of negotiations, in which Google commits to pay for the use of France Presse's content for the past five years.

The amount AFP will receive was not disclosed.

"This is an agreement that covers the entire European Union, in all AFP languages, even in countries that have not transposed the directive," said the agency's director general, Fabrice Fries, describing the agreement as "groundbreaking."

"We signed this agreement to turn the page and move on. We want to show that the actors can understand each other and find solutions," said Sébastien Missoffe, general manager of Google in France.

France Presse produces and distributes content for its clients in six languages around the world.
