The Water Supply Investment and Assets Fund (FIPAG) is investing, through the Accelerated and Integrated Loss Reduction Program (PAIRP), about $240 million to reduce water losses in the Maputo Metropolitan Region.
Currently, water losses at this point, which includes the country's capital city, Matola, Boane and Marracuene are around 53%, so they should be down to 33% by 2024.
"This reduction will result in increased availability of the resource to more families," FIPAG reveals.
More than just reducing losses, the PAIRP is committed to restoring full water supply in the Greater Maputo metropolitan area, on the road to universal access to the service.
According to FIPAG, the action aims to reduce the volumes of unbilled water in order to bring the number of active customers to 400,000, as well as to improve the quality of the resource.
"The idea is to go from the current 205 thousand clients to 400 thousand served. In the area of income, PAIRP intends to see the current income doubled," stresses the source in a statement.
