Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has had its operations at a standstill since December 5, due to the breakdown of its aircraft. In a statement, the national flag carrier said it does not know when it will resume operations.
In Inhambane province, the negative effects are already being felt. Yassin Amuji, president of the Vilankulo Tourism Association, who was speaking to DW, recalls that this is the time of year when a large number of tourists come to the region.
"The impacts will always be negative when a company decides to stop flying or has a problem. There are people who have already planned their trips. We're entering the high season," he said, as quoted by this media outlet.
It is known that due to the stoppage of LAM flights, many establishments are without customers.
The constraints on LAM's operations are not new. As a result, the number of customers using this airline is falling significantly.
The situation is very worrying and Yassin Amuji says there is no way around it.
"Unfortunately we can't get around this situation, the only thing we can do is appeal to the authorities who run the airline to take the situation a little seriously," he said.
