Sofala gets another rice processing plant

Sofala conta com mais uma unidade fabril de processamento de arroz

Sofala province, in central Mozambique, has yet another rice processing plant, an initiative that marks the strengthening of the rural development agenda.

The new plant was inaugurated on Tuesday (22) by the governor of Sofala, Lourenço Bulha, at the Mafambisse administrative post, in the district of Dondo, in a ceremony that also served to deliver agricultural inputs to family farmers.

For the Sofala government, this unit now in operation represents a "concrete step in promoting the processing of raw materials at the place of production, adding value to rice cultivation and reducing dependence on external markets for the processing of the grain".

According to a Txopela newspaperThe new processing plant will have the capacity to absorb rice production from the central region, boosting inter-provincial trade and fostering a new agro-industrial hub in the Beira corridor.

The focus on agricultural mechanization and technical assistance is part of a broader approach to stimulating national production in the face of the challenges posed by climate change, fluctuations in global markets and the need to revitalize Mozambique's rural economy.
