Tete's coal exports almost quadruple in Q2 2022

According to data from the Bank of Mozambique (BM), in the most recent report on the Economic Environment and Inflation Outlook, coal exports grew by US$586 million in the second quarter. That is, they reached 817 million dollars, almost four times the value recorded in the same period of 2021 (228 million dollars).

In the same period under review, aluminum also recorded an increase in exports, reaching $550 million, compared to $293 million in the same period in 2021, representing a growth of $257 million.

The export of heavy sands was also a highlight in the period under mention. The product reached 94 million dollars in exports, compared to 82 million dollars recorded in 2021. The growth was 12 million dollars.

Natural gas exports grew by $32 million, up from $65 million in 2021 to $98 million in the second quarter of 2022.

In fact, during the period in question, the value of exports of goods increased in relation to the same period of the previous year, by 1,055 million dollars, of which 903 million dollars referred to large projects.

The sectors that contributed most in total exports were the extractive and industrial sectors, with emphasis on mineral coal and aluminum.

The WB expects that in the short term exports will continue to grow, favored mainly by higher demand for energy products and by commodity prices on the international market.
