Ex-PR covets to take over the protocol residence of the President of Parliament

Ex-PR cobiça tomar para si a residência protocolar da Presidente do parlamento

The former President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, seems to have strong intentions, and has already expressed them, to take over the official residence of the President of the Assembly of the Republic in Maputo city.

The weekly Evidências reports that, as a former high-ranking state leader, Nyusi enjoys privileges such as the right to a residence and a protocol office. It seems that he still doesn't have them and, just last week, he was staying at a guest house in Ponta Vermelha, before supposedly heading to Nampula and Cabo Delgado, where he has residences and business interests.

The coveted protocol residence of the RA, which is to be occupied by the new tenant, Margarida Talapa, is one minute away from the Presidency of the Republic, on the other side of Julius Nyerere Avenue. It occupies the perimeter of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue up to the corner with Armando Tivane Avenue, which separates it from St. Anthony of Polana Church. This residence - which is intended to become an office for the former PR - has a wall separating it from the protocol residence for the Prime Minister.

The newspaper also reports that Nyusi has kept for himself the official residence where he lived as Defense Minister before moving to Ponta-Vermelha. The house is on Av. Do Zimbabué, in Maputo city.

Given that Margarida Talapa, the President of the HR, lives in her residence and has not yet occupied the protocol house, the state is obliged to pay Talapa a rent subsidy until she occupies the house allocated to her or is given another protocol house.
