Ex-Director of INAE expelled from the State apparatus for corruption and abuse of office

Ex-Director da INAE expulso do Aparelho do Estado por corrupção e abuso de cargo

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita, ordered the exoneration of the former Director and senior Inspector of the Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE), Verónio Duvane, for acts of corruption and abuse of office and function. The dismissal order was signed on July 15, 2022.

Duvane's expulsion follows investigations and indictment by the Central Bureau for Combating Corruption (GCCC), whose case has already been referred to the KaMpfumu District Judicial Court. Read more...

The information was released through a circular, signed by the head of the Human Resources Department of the ministry in question, on August 3rd, which reads:

"As part of the disciplinary proceedings, brought against Mr. Veronio Duvane, Senior Inspector of Economic Activities D, step 1, who had been appointed to the position of National Director of Research Operations and Economic Intelligence at INAE-Central, we wish to inform your Excellency that, by order of July 15, 2022, of his Excellency Minister of Industry of Commerce, he has been expelled from the State Apparatus."

Duvane was caught with 250,000 meticais extorted from a commercial agent of foreign origin in Maputo city. The purpose was to avoid the passage of a fine for the irregularities verified in the act of inspection.

At this moment, Veronio Duvane is answering a criminal trial on provisional release, for using his public office to demand, in his favor, advantages and abusing his office and function.
