According to the US Ambassador to Mozambique, Peter Vrooman, who was speaking this Wednesday (18) after the end of an audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, said that the US government will continue to support the country, especially in the health sector.
"We have exemptions on some projects that save lives, that is, PEPFAR projects, antiretrovirals, but also logistics for the health sector and we are going to continue our programs to save the lives of the two million Mozambicans who have HIV," said the US diplomat.
Vrooman also added that the US government has humanitarian assistance programs in Mozambique, so "these continue as well, and we work with partners here, with the [Mozambican] government, the private sector and also NGOs [Non-Governmental Organizations] to safeguard the humanitarian assistance programs
Since 2004, the US government has been working to ensure that Mozambique is prosperous and healthy by implementing PEPFAR. Over the past 20 years, PEPFAR has invested more than 5.2 billion dollars in the response to HIV and AIDS in Mozambique.
