The National Institute of Terrestrial Transport (INATRO) has just suspended the production of the biometric driving license, following the termination of the contract to provide this service with the provider contracted for this purpose.
Source of the institute explained to "Notícias", that the termination was due to irregularities of administrative nature recorded in the contracting. However, while the production of the biometric driving license is suspended, motorists can use the temporary license, since the processing of the document, both for new drivers and for those who have expired was not interrupted.
INATRO also clarifies that the entire process related to the issuing of the driving license is still in operation, with the exception of its physical production.
Without revealing details about the irregularities in question, let alone the name of the company involved, the source said that the file on these contracts has been forwarded to the competent authorities for proper handling.
According to "Notícias" the company contracted to produce the biometric driving license is Brithol Michcoma, which had a contract with the former National Institute of Land Transport (INATTER), now transformed into the National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO). The file on this service is also at the Administrative Court (TA) and the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC).
The contract with Brithol Michcoma, in force during the restructuring of the institution, lasted until November 30, with an automatic renewal clause for another six months, starting December 1. However, after detecting some anomalies, the INATRO administration decided to terminate it and begin a process of clarification.
