A delegation of Indian businesspeople from various industries expressed their interest in exploring more business opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, energy, mining, agribusiness and others in Maputo on Tuesday (25)..

According to the High Commissioner of India in Mozambique, Robert Sheki Shetkintong, the sharing of experiences between the business sectors of India and Mozambique reaffirms the commitment to facilitating relations, promoting a favorable business environment with mutual benefits.

"Let this be the start of new partnerships and concrete opportunities for both countries," said Shetkintong, during the Business Networking with Mozambican businesspeople event that took place in Maputo.

On the occasion, the president of the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce, Álvaro Massingue, quoted by AIMHe presented the opportunities that the country offers in the various strategic sectors that can boost the economy and promote inclusive sustainable development.

"We are reinforcing the need for structuring investments in all areas of our economy, with a special focus on the pharmaceutical, agri-business, minerals, industrial and commercial sectors," said Álvaro Massingue, explaining that the pharmaceutical sector represents a very important market, not only for guaranteeing access to essential medicines, but also for promoting local industrialization and reducing import dependency.

The source said that the country is open to partners interested in enabling technology transfer, national production and the efficient distribution of health products. He stressed that agribusiness is one of the pillars of the Mozambican economy, in order to guarantee food security and strengthen value chains.

"We have more than 36 million hectares of fertile land, a favourable climate and a growing market, but we need investment to modernize production, improve logistics and add value to our agricultural products, making them more competitive on the global market," he said.

Regarding the mining sector, he explained that Mozambique has mineral reserves of great importance, including coal, graphite, heavy sands and other strategic resources.
