The investment in new labeling and packaging is being seen by Mozambican businessmen as a strategy to promote greater competitiveness of domestic products.
In this sense, commercial operators have recently been trained by the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (CCM) on the legal regime of labeling on the packaging of food products.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of CCM, Álvaro Massingue, said that the organization of the event fits in the attributions of his institution aimed at encouraging, among the national business community, the best practices of international trade and exports.
According to Álvaro Massingue, the achievement of this goal requires that Mozambican products be properly identified and packaged both for customer satisfaction, as well as to ensure the protection of their quality.
"These are, along with quality certification, the biggest challenges facing domestic producers to improve their competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. It is indisputable that good quality packaging and labeling also attract buyers," he said.
According to Massingue, despite being of better quality, many times the national products are passed over in favor of the imported ones for not giving the proper importance to the quality of packaging and labeling.
The event resulted from a partnership between CCM, the National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE), and the National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ).
The Association of Producers and Importers of Alcoholic Beverages (APIBA) also participated in the seminar. As an association of private companies with long experience in packaging and labeling matters, APIBA also shared its knowledge in this process.
The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce has committed itself to continue establishing and strengthening partnerships to meet the objective of serving the national business class and fostering better capabilities for their performance and profitability of their services.
