Contractors visit stretch of N1 for first phase of rehabilitation project

Empreiteiros visitam troço da N1 para a primeira fase do projecto de reabilitação

At least 30 representatives of national and foreign companies linked to the civil construction and engineering sectors paid a technical visit to the Gorongosa/ Caia stretch, in Sofala province, between kilometers 84 and 168..

This action is part of the bidding process for Phase I of the National Road Number One (N1) Rehabilitation Project, whose works total 508 km and are divided into six lots.

The Phase I works, budgeted at 400 million dollars, are financed by the World Bank and are part of a strategic road infrastructure modernization program, aimed at improving transitability and road safety, as well as contributing to regional socio-economic integration.

The contractors' visit to the Gorongosa/Caia section was an opportunity to fulfill one of the mandatory requirements of the tender and provide the bidders with a detailed understanding of the subject of the tender.

The contractors also had the opportunity to examine the possible borrowing chambers for materials (aggregates) and other technical elements essential for preparing technical and financial proposals in line with the project's conceptual study.

The public tender for the rehabilitation of the N1 was launched by the government in August. At the time, the Minister for Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, stressed the importance of strict compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements to guarantee the quality and durability of the works.

According to the government, bids must be submitted by November 1, 2024 and full compliance with the technical requirements will be fundamental for the selection of the contractors who will carry out this project of great importance for the country.
