The Maputo City Council plans to build public toilets in passenger transport terminals, bus stops and markets soon.

The initiative, according to NewsThe aim is to eliminate the practice of urinating in the street, which compromises public health, the environment and the aesthetics of the city.

The plan calls for the mobile toilets to be removed as the permanent public urinals are installed.

A city official said that the council had adopted the strategy of identifying places where people gather to justify the construction of toilets.

"At the moment, a toilet is being built on Avenida 24 de Julho, on the central promenade of the Entreposto stop," he said.

The plan is part of the Urban Transformation Project, supported by the World Bank. The management of the urinals will be private.
