The Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, told the Judicial Court of Maputo City today that when he assumed the portfolios of his ministry, only EMATUM's debt was registered in the National Treasury Directorate.
In a hearing taking place in BO tent, Maputo province, Maleiane also informed the court that he did not know about the debts of Proindicus and MAM, at least from the point of view of registration.
Maleiane also said that the Government regarded the other debts as non-existent, and only after questioning his predecessor (Manuel Chang) did he learn that the debts of MAM and ProIndicus were from the secret forum, because they were SISE operating vehicles.
"VTB wanted the new government to issue new guarantees. But we said it was better to continue the principle of good faith. That is why of the debts of ProIndicus and MAM we are not paying anything. The debts that we call today 'undeclared' we are not paying. The one we are paying is from EMATUM, because the name of the country was tarnished at the international level and it is necessary, in our perception, to safeguard a good image of the country," explained Maleiane.
