131-carat white diamond discovered in Angola

Descoberto diamante branco de 131 quilates em Angola

Empresa Nacional de Diamantes de Angola (Endiama) announced today the discovery of a 131-carat white diamond at the Lulo mine in Lunda Norte province, the 29th of more than 100 carats extracted at the mine.

According to Endiama, the said type 2-A diamond found in Lulo block 19 on September 13, 2022 is the fourth of more than 100 carats recovered at that mine this year.

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, quoted by the state diamond company's statement, considers that the new discovery is proof of the country's enormous diamond potential.

"I am absolutely convinced that with discoveries of this nature we will be, in the near future, among the largest diamond producers in the world. On our part the companies can always count on all the institutional support to guarantee the good performance of their operations", said the governor.

For the President of the Board of Directors of Endiama, José Ganga Júnior, the discovery of this diamond of "large dimensions and quality demonstrates the quality of the partnership between Endiama, Rosas e Pétalas and Lucapa Diamond.

This is the second large diamond mined at the Lulo mine this September, following the first discovery of a 160-carat diamond on September 2.

The Lulo alluvial mine is operated by Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, made up of the Angolan companies Endiama (32%), Rosas e Pétalas (28%) and the Australian Lucapa Diamond (40%).
