CTA creates security department to fight kidnapping of businessmen

CTA cria pelouro de segurança para combater rapto de empresários

CTA- Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique announced today that it has created the Department of Security and Private Protection with the objective of fighting criminality, mainly kidnapping of businessmen in the country.

The measure arises due to the resurgence of kidnappings of businessmen all over the country, but with the greatest focus on those that have occurred in the city of Maputo in recent times.

CTA says it is in constant dialogue with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of National Defense in order to mitigate the wave of kidnappings. And, as the organization said, the interaction with the Ministry of Interior has not been dynamic, hence it has addressed a set of issues for discussion that includes combating kidnappings and mitigating their effects.

The CTA made the announcement during a press conference in Maputo, where it sought to express its displeasure with the kidnapping of businessmen in Mozambique, even more so because some of these crimes occur under the "beards" of the police and remain unaccounted for.

"Changes need to be made to the legal framework, making it severe in its penal framework and without the possibility of bail. Otherwise, criminals will continue to feel some comfort in the cost/benefit binomial. It is necessary to pass on the information that the State and society do not tolerate crime," says the CTA.
