Government considers that credit to the economy should register a growth this year, influenced fundamentally, by the improvement in the conditions of economic activity in relation to last year, the tendency for collective immunization at a global and national level, as well as the reopening in the various sectors.
Based on data provided by the Bank of Mozambique, government forecasts indicate that during the past year, credit to the economy reached 288. 841 million meticais, an increase of 8.80 percent over the previous period.
This year, the figure could reach 331,301 million meticais, representing a growth of 14.70 percent.
In this sense, the government also states that in order to contribute to the macroeconomic stability of the country, reflected by the achievement of the inflation target set at one digit, the Central Bank will continue this year, to privilege the implementation of prudent monetary policy, based on the calibration of its monetary policy instruments, with emphasis on the monetary policy reference interest rate, the MIMO rate, in line with the macroeconomic fundamentals.
Meanwhile, in the foreign exchange market, the monetary authority's actions will take into account the need to ensure a level of Gross International Reserves (GIR) adequate to cover about six months of imports of goods and services, as well as to limit excessive volatility of the exchange rate against the country's main and commercial currencies, especially when this is not due to macroeconomic fundamentals.
With regard to exports, a growth of about 1,024 million U.S. dollars is expected, essentially reflecting the increase in large projects (979 million dollars), thanks to the gradual recovery of external demand and commodity prices in the international market.
