Covid-19: “Uso de máscara deixa de ser obrigatório e vacinação é estendida a adolescentes”, -Filipe Nyusi

The use of face mask in public places is no longer mandatory, except in hospitals, medical laboratories, pharmacies, old people's homes, and inside commercial aircraft.

The measure was announced tonight by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, when addressing the nation as part of the measures to manage and control the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the use of the mask is still recommended inside passenger transportation, by people with symptoms of respiratory problems, and at wakes and funeral ceremonies, especially if the deceased was a victim of COVID-19.

Likewise, according to the Head of State, there are no longer any limits on the number of participants in funeral ceremonies.

At a time when the country has already vaccinated 97% of the population 18 years and older, Nyusi said that the target audience for immunization will be extended to ages ranging from 11 to 17.

The vaccination campaign for the new age groups begins on September 27, at the same time as campaigns to administer booster doses to citizens who have been immunized for at least six months.

"The vaccine is free and available in all districts of the country," he said, reiterating that the vaccination aims to prevent more serious forms of the disease.
