Covid-19: CTA says relaxation of measures represents opportunity for tourism recovery

The President of the Tourism Department of the Confederation of Mozambican Business Associations (CTA), Muhammad Abdullah, said that the relaxation of measures and the extension of hours in the instances of hospitality and tourism represents an opportunity for the recovery of economic activity in the sector.

"We as a pelouro are focusing all our efforts on creating and implementing mechanisms to support the recovery of businesses in our sector, so this is an opportunity to leverage the robustness and growth of the sector," Muhammad Abdullah, Chairman of the Pelouro do Turismo by CTA, told a press conference today.

In this context, says the CTA's tourism department, the measures announced by the President of the Republic give a breath of fresh air to the industry, and this is the right time for the sector to pick up, following the relaxation of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19

The CTA also says that the suspension of curfews and the extension of the opening hours of open-door restaurants to 11 p.m. and of beaches to 6 p.m. shows that the Government is welcoming the suggestions of the private sector, in particular the Tourism sector, which has always advocated the reopening of beaches and the extension of restaurant opening hours

For the CTA's Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Division, the greater the mobility of people and goods, the greater the opportunity for tourism, because "it is well known that the tourism value chain is extensive and labor-intensive.

On the same occasion, CTA expressed concern and repudiation for the wave of kidnappings whose victims are mostly businessmen, and the climate of instability in the north of the country which, according to this business organization, directly affects the tourism sector in Mozambique
