Mozambique is expected to announce million-dollar climate pacts at the next United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023 (COP28), between November 30 and December 12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Among the announcements, the highlight goes to the investment of 4.5 billion dollars in a hydroelectric power transmission project, according to the newspaper Money WebThe report quotes the Deputy National Director of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, Marcelina Mataveia, who was speaking in an interview on Wednesday in Nairobi, Kenya.
She said that this investment is part of the energy transition strategy that covers industry and transportation, and that the general plan will be announced at COP28.
At the summit, the country will also try to secure an energy transition pact with the world's most developed countries.
The energy transition plan will also include off-grid solutions for remote communities and the gradual change of the transportation fleet from gasoline and diesel to electric cars and biofuels, Mataveia said.
The idea is for the country to harness its energy potential (hydrological, solar and wind) for the benefit of national communities and neighboring countries, according to the portal.
For now, it is known that Germany is in talks with Mozambique about energy projects. In Nairobi, the United Arab Emirates said it would invest billions of dollars in Africa's energy sector.
